Threats to Your Business I: Current Legislation
This panel will address current legislation throughout the country which may affect access to real property public records, including legislation dealing with privacy and/or cost issues. The panelists, Yianni Pantis of First American and Mike Klipper of the Washington, DC law firm of Meyer Klipper Mohr, are attorneys who specialize in public records laws and issues.
Threats to Your Business II: WIREdata and Beyond
This panel will address the case of WIREdata v. Sussex (WIREdata is one of our very own REIPA members) currently before the Wisconsin Supreme Court (note: as of this printing, the case has yet to be decided). The issue presented in this very important case is the outsourcing by government entities of their public records obligations to private parties and the legal issues raised by such practices. The panelists, Mike Klipper of the Washington, DC law firm of Meyer Klipper Mohr and Yianni Pantis of First American, are attorneys who specialize in public records laws and issues.
NAR Public Record Initiative: Fiction or Reality? (Panel Discussion)
Recently, the National Association of Realtors® (NAR) has announced an initiative that one day may create a national Multiple Listing Service (MLS) based on public record data. Last November, the NAR Board of Directors approved proceeding with what’s being called a gateway platform, the first step in a process for amassing information on all parcels in the United States—residential, commercial, undeveloped, rental—into a central database accessible to REALTORS® (not consumers). The “gateway” would include historical transaction information, assessments, and other information for each parcel. Is it realistic to think this can happen? Listen to our experts on the progress NAR has made to date, what the future may hold, and how this NAR initiative may impact your business. The session will end with an open roundtable discussion and create a plan for a call to action on this important topic. The speaker will be Brian Boero. Prior to co-founding 1000Watt Consulting, Brian was CEO of VREO, Inc. At VREO, he created and marketed Real Estate Dashboard®, a software application that made the vision of paperless, mobile real estate a reality. Before joining VREO, Brian was President of Inman News, the nation's leading independent real estate news service and content provider to consumers and the real estate industry. There, Brian was instrumental in the growth of the company's content syndication, subscription and advertising businesses. Brian's collaboration with Marc Davison began at Inman News, where the pair jointly developed and launched Inman's ClientDirect™ e-newsletter product, which was later acquired by the California Association of REALTORS®. |
